Welcome to the NXT 4 default site based on a modern template.
This template is designed for easy use both on desktop computers and mobile devices running iOS or Android. This default site is very rich in functionality and employs a lot of tools and techniques. With small changes to some of the default site's settings, you can create a custom look and feel while leverage the robust functionality of the default site. Let's take a quick tour around the site so you are familiar with what you are seeing and what is available to you through this site.
Figure 1 demonstrates the main areas of the default site:

Main area allows you to perform special actions on the site:

Contents button hides or shows Table of Contents area. |

Search button displays the last selected search form. |

Bookmarks button opens the bookmarks page that allows to open, edit and remove bookmarks. |

Tweet it button allows you to share a link to the document within NXT site via Twitter. |

Settings button opens the setting page that allows you to customize NXT site for yourself to some extend. |

Bookmarks make the navigations and reference to your site more convenient. With the help of new modern template you can add, remove, or edit the Bookmarks so that you can save any document pages. NXT 4 stores bookmarks as part of your user preferences.
To add a bookmark open the necessary document page and click the +Bookmark. The Bookmark will be added and saved.
To display the added bookmarks click the Bookmarks icon. The NXT 4 Bookmarks page opens and all added bookmarks are listed. On this page you can edit or delete the names of saved bookmarks.
Search area allows to perform simple search (using input box and Search button), clear search results (using Clear button), select search form (using search form selector), or return to the previous page using Back button.
A search for content on the default site, and for that matter a search within NXT 4, is basically comprised of four steps:
On the default site, there are many different ways that you can run a search. All searches start by typing what you want to search for into a search form. In short, a search form is a web page that contains one or more fields where you can type words/terms on which to search. The easiest and most readily accessible search form is the Search edit box, located at the top, middle-left of the default site.

This search form enables you to do a simple keyword search on the default site
content. Try it now by typing the word coastal
in the Search field. Notice that your search results automatically display
on the Results page.
Alternatively, you can choose to perform a search using one of four search forms provided:
You can access these search forms using the Simple Search list located in the Searching area. If you select a search form from the Simple Search list, the Document tab changes to to the Search Form tab.

When you run a search, the Results page is automatically selected and displays the search results list. The list contains all documents that contain a match to the specified search. The surrounding context information is also displayed for each result and is named Document Excerpt. The document excerpt can help you to determine whether a document matches your search.
The Results page provides you with information regarding your search.
The Results page indicates which batch of results you are currently viewing out of the total number of results NXT
found (for example, 1-6 of 6 results).
Use the Document Excerpts list to turn document excerpts off or to modify the amount of context.

Select Short, Medium, or Long the number of words in the context to be displayed on each side of the match. Select Off to turn the document excerpts off.
When you click a document in the search results list, the document
automatically opens in the Document tab to the first paragraph containing the match.
For example, click the first document in the Search results list. Note that
the word coastal is highlighted in the document. To jump to the next
highlighted matches in this document, click the Next Match icon in
the toolbar. After viewing the document, if you want to go back to your list of
search results, click the Results page again.

By default, to display PDF files the NXT engine uses the embedded PDF viewer. The embedded PDF viewer supports mobile devices and navigation between hits in the NXT standard behaviour. The standard behaviour means that you can use default tools on the Document toolbar when you navigate between hits.
To use the embedded PDF viewer, verify that your browser and mobile operating system meets system requirements. The embedded PDF viewer supports default browsers in the following mobile operating systems: iOS 7.1 and higher, Android 4.1 and higher. The following list includes the system requirements for browsers that can operate with the embedded PDF viewer. If you use older versions of a browser, you can use your system PDF viewer or upgrade your browser to the recent version.
List of supported browsers:
To use your system PDF viewer, click Settings and set Always use my system PDF viewer to Yes.
After selecting a document from the list of search results, you can manually scroll through that document to identify all of its matches. You can also use the tools in the Document toolbar to navigate the search results and documents.

The tools in the Document toolbar are:

expands or collapses the table of contents as necessary to show where the
document is located in the site hierarchy and to view other documents in a
similar context.

Moves from one search match to the next within one document. Users see a
notification message when they reach the top or the end of the document. The
search for the match in the document is cyclical. If you use your system PDF
viewer, use the navigation tools that are included in the interface of your
system PDF viewer.

removes the highlights from the matches in the current document. To redisplay
the highlights, click the Highlights button again.
)
or Next Hit Doc (
)
moves from one document in your search results list to the next.
Use the Table of Contents to navigate within the site. The process of navigation varies depending on the Use non-hierarchical Table of Contents option specified on the Settings page.
If this option is disabled, you can view the full table of contents tree. Within this tree, expand the
older nodes of the table of contents until you see a document icon
or a heading that is underlined
when you hover over it. Note that not every heading corresponds to a document. Folder nodes can
contain other folders or documents, and if one of these headings is clicked,
nothing is displayed in the Document viewing area.
For example, click the arrow icon 
corresponding to the folder icon 
next to Sample Collections, then Country Quick Facts, then Africa,
and finally Algeria. Your table of contents now looks like

When the Use non-hierarchical Table of Contents option is enabled, the full table of contents is not displayed.
Instead, the tree represents the list of documents and folders with a link to the parent folder or document.To expand folder,
click the folder icon

If folder does not have associated document, this folder additionally can be expanded by clicking the folder name.
To go back, click the link to a parent node.
To browse document content, click the document name. To increase free space on small screens, only the contents of the last opened node are displayed. Figure 8 shows your table of contents with the Use non-hierarchical Table of Contents option enabled.

Table of Contents area and Document area are touch-scrollable. To scroll them, use one-finger scroll gesture.
To browse document content, click the document name.
Note: To keep more free space on small screens, only children of last opened node are shown.
The Document Viewing area allows to browse documents within NXT content collection using Prev Doc and Next Doc buttons, to list hits within current document, or to switch between matched documents. Note that when no search performed, the following buttons are disabled: Prev Doc, Next Doc, Prev Match, Next Match.
The Document viewing area will not change until in the Table of Contents you click a document or a folder that contains a document.
NXT 4 allows you to set options for the table of contents, user interface and share options.
Access the NXT 4 Options page by clicking the Settings icon in the Main toolbar.
On the NXT 4 Options page, you may set the following options:

To save search results
When search results are shown, use Save search as: form to save search in your user preferences.
To save or share search results
When search results are shown, click the Email it button. In this case NXT creates a message from default template:
